What is the source of weather information? Can rain events be paired to a personal, in yard weather station?

This was the answer from another thread. Pretty sure that GeoDrops doesn’t have the ability to pair with personal weather stations (I’ve got one as well), and it sounds like it’s not something on their roadmap.

Hi @petehami ,

@Scythe is correct. GeoDrops current pulls the weather from different weather forecast APIs. I can document weather station support in the feature request although we won’t have an ETA on this at least during the soft launch though.

Just to clarify, are you talking about using Rachio to map both GeoDrops and a personal weather station?

Just thinking that linking to a weather station on the same property would mean much greater accuracy. Now, the rain events and watering events are very inaccurate.

At this moment we don’t have any plans to directly integrate GeoDrops with backyard weather stations. A public API for power users to access GeoDrops features is in the roadmap. If your weather station supports IFTTT maybe that could be used together with the GeoDrops’ IFTTT help create watering control switches. GeoDrops uses NWS weather data for its own weather forecast and inference

I believe @homedigy-stanley was referring to Rachio’s ability to integrate with peripheral devices like weather stations or rain meters. Direct integration with Rachio is something we are looking into as well. But this might not be applicable if you are not using Rachio to control your watering.
