[2025, Oct 3] Major GeoDrops Software Update for Soft-Launch

[Update 2025-11-3]: The updated GeoDrops App has been released over the weekend, and a brand new GeoDrops AI | Watering User Guide has just been released!

You can download the “GeoDrops AI: Watering User Guide” here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MJF9Z20rlbjwNJOVSFqqms82c7Sr-Qy3/view

Thanks for your patience, and please let me know what all of you think (if you’re not able to use GeoDrops over the winter, it’s ok! Would still love to just hear your thoughts if you have any feedback for us on where we’re taking GeoDrops).

[Update 2025-10-29]: Please wait for a new App update coming within a few days. We were almost done with the new User Guide over the past weekend, except we found a very bad bug that was not reproducible in our internal testing environment. The bug fix is now (almost) ready and we’ll be submitting it to Apple App Store and Google Play Store tonight. It’ll take a few days to be reviewed/approved by Google/Apple, before they show up on the App Store.

I’ll provide more updates here once this is approved, and will release the new User Guide at the same time.

Thanks for your pateince and understanding!

[Update 2025-10-18: The software had been released on Oct 15. We are currently working on a brand new User Guide. Given it’s now Fall, we’d like to get the Guide right and not rush it. Please feel free to play around with the new App in the meantime though. We currently expect to release the new GeoDrops User Guide in approx ~1 week or so from now.]

[Update 2025-10-13: We’ve run into one minute bug with the AI algorithm’ math in edge cases that were not caught during our week long system test previously. We really want to get Watering Reminders and Controls right, so please give us 1-2 more days to fix this]

Hi all,

Today, we’re starting to roll out our first major GeoDrops software update since our Soft Launch earlier summer this year!

What’s New.

  • Major App Features:

    • New support for “watering group”, “moisture target”, “AI moisture trend”, and “watering reminder”
    • (Cloud API) New soil moisture target and alert (Push Notification)
    • (Cloud AI) New AI model for “soil moisture trend” for watering control and alerts
    • (Cloud AI) New “loose soil” AI moisture correction (situational)
  • Cloud API Release:

    • Our first public programmable API will be available as part of this release via Google BigQuery. I’ll write documentations at a later date teaching people how to set this up, including a few Tips & Tricks on how to connect this to Home Assistant.
  • Quality of Life (QoL) and User Experience (UX) Improvements:

    • [Major Update] (App) Improved soil installation instructions
    • (Cloud AI) Improved initial setup AI soil profiling
    • (Cloud AI) Improved AI recommendations if device is not optimally set up
    • (App) Updated O-ring lubrication & cleaning instructions
    • (App) Large number of UX Improvements
  • Bug Fixes:

    • (Cloud AI) New AI physics models with many bug fixes: soil profiling, missing water detection, AI Recommendations, and more
    • (Cloud) Fixed bugs for some users with missing weather forecast data
      More user friendly AI recommendations
    • (App) Many misc UI bug fixes

When.

Starting from NOW until Friday October 10. We will let you know if the full software update completes earlier than that.

GeoDrops App update will be available early next week.

Impact to You.

None. This massive GeoDrops software update (across Cloud, AI Backend, and Apps) is expected to be fully automated behind the scene. If you notice any bug or weird software behavior in the next 1 week, please let us know ASAP by filing a tech support ticket!

IMPORTANT - Irrigation Control coming soon.

IFTTT based irrigation control is NOT part of this release.

Help needed: Please help us enable watering control once the App is rolled out next week, and please let us know if the AI is making any mistake with the watering alerts. We currently only having AI watering trend enabled in Cloud, and will slowly enable AI watering prediction as we gain confidence in how people are using the watering notification system.

Please use this feature, and file bugs and/or feedback as much as you can, to help us gain more usage mileage before we move forward!

What’s next.

Our engineering team will follow-up next week with a more detailed post with guides on how to use the new watering reminder system.

Thanks!

Awesome! Can’t wait to test all the enhancements! Still a little bit of fall left here in Colorado.

Hi,

I’m a new owner exactly 24 hours old to be exact. I bought the GeoDrops to have state of the art watering control for my backyard. After researching GeoDrops I replaced my old Rainbird system with a Rachio3 with the idea of integration. So I guess my question is the IFTTT will be a software update in the future or will I have to purchase another unit that’s compatible?

Hi @JohnBid ,

IFTTT-based irrigation support will be a part of the next release. If you were to keep using your old Rainbird system, you will need to wait for the Station (currently scheduled for late 2026).

Hope this helps, and thanks again for your support!

I’ve already switched to a Rachio3 system in hopes of integration. That’s good news that it’s only a software update.
Thank you

Can we get an update on the update progress? I was looking forward to the post with instructions on how to use the watering reminders and hoping for an app update, but haven’t seen anything yet.

The summary indicates there are updates to the App. As recently as yesterday, I looked for a newer version of the App on the Google Play Store (Android). There was no new version to install. Did I mis-read the summary??

Also, some time ago, I commented on how long it takes the app to boot – in the range of 18-20 seconds. The response was that it should get better with the next release. I am going on record that the boot time has not improved.

I will fill out a tech support ticket for my other concerns/questions/issues.

Update 2025-10-13: We’ve run into one minute bug with the AI algorithm’ math in edge cases that were not caught during our week long system test previously. We really want to get Watering Reminders and Controls right, so please give us 1-2 more days to fix this.

Also: I forgot to add that our Public programmable API is also part of this release, since a relatively large number of our users had been asking for Home Assistant integration. This is a very BIG release, there’s A LOT coming…

Thanks, Leon! (and the rest of the team). Loving the new Analytics dashboard and all the capabilities that it’ll (hopefully!) unlock.

Hi all,

The software had been released on Oct 15.

We are currently working on a brand new User Guide. Given it’s now Fall, we’d like to get the Guide right and not rush it. Please feel free to play around with the new App in the meantime though.

We currently expect to release the new GeoDrops User Guide in approx ~1 week or so from now.

Thanks,

What is the latest version of the geodrops fw with this release? Is it a202r1?

I got a notice of the new version yesterday, November 1, 2025.

Hi @Ngiac ,

It is indeed vA2.02.r1. It hasn’t been updated in a while. When there’s a new update, the devices automatically updates itself, which you can check in the about section of your device under info in the app.

Hope this helps,
