Geodrops Unusual Readings Notification

I started to get this message in the app a few times the past few days and then it goes away. No other changes. Full message is “Geodrops device Front Yard has unusual readings, likely due to moisture leaks.” However, about a month ago I put in new batteries and a new rubber o-ring. Should I pull it out to check for leaks, or something else?

Can you include the serial number so that I along with @homedigy-alpha can take a look at this?

Also, if you were to replace the batteries, please take a photo inside the battery compartment along with the battery cap. The dirt build-up could be a contributing factory to the moisture seal. When securing the battery cap, please make sure that there’s no gap between the chassis and the cap.

Hi Keith,

It does seem like your device is having a leak. Please proceed with the notification suggestion and see if the device is returns to normal after drying. It looks otherwise still functional at the moment. Please make sure to follow the O-ring cleaning guide as closely as possible.

For your consideration, our final device has improved seal and battery cap design. If the beta device is permanently damaged by the leak you can purchase a replacement production device with a reimbursement

Appreciate the follow-up. I haven’t had a chance to dig it up again. Hopefully I’ll get to it this week and report back.

ok, pulled the geodrop today, cleaned o-ring, and put it back in the ground. All seems ok, but 2 hours later, I get the same notification about unusual readings and clean the o-ring. But when I go to the app, it says to calibrate and no mention of cleaning the o-ring.

ok, now I have an app warning to clean the o-ring again. The o-ring was new about 1.5 months ago, so possibly a leak developed with the surrounding plastic body and/or plastic. Or another issue just causing the errors. Where do I go from here? Replacement? I’m already in queue for the new shipments to the US shortly.

Hi Keith,

One solution is to just trade-in the beta device with a production device. But let see if we can salvage the device because it is otherwise still working. Have you allowed it to dry before putting the device back in? I would suggest leaving the battery cap open and let it dry out perhaps for a day or two and see if it is still workable. If not then we can replace the device.

@homedigy-stanley can help you with the trade-in arrangements if it does come to that.

I just removed it yesterday to dry out, so will check it later this week to see how it works.

ok, after dry out, clean, and lube, I put the Geodrop back in the ground last night. No issues so far, going through calibration now.

I just received the same moisture leaks message in the app. Disappointing with a new o-ring and 2 pull outs and cleans. When are the new US devices arriving?

The batch you have ordered as part of the Kickstarter campaign will arrive soon. More details will be announced on Kickstarter as soon as we receive the tracking links from the freight forwarder.

In terms of the unit for the trade-in, they will arrive later. You will be able to make the pre-orders earlier than this. More details will also be announced soon on that front.
