What is the correct way to shut down my GeoDrops for the winter? I have removed, cleaned and removed batteries. Thank you
I’d also like to see the discussion about this…
Hi @Corvettedoug ,
What you did appears to be correct, although I would like you to clarify what you mean by “cleaned” other than cleaning and relubricating the o-rings when you’re ready to deploy them again.

Cleaned the exterior of the GeoDrops and removed batteries. I have left it apart and will relubricate O rings when I am ready to reinstall in the spring. Is there anything I need to do with the app?
Hi @Corvettedoug ,
Nothing needs to be done on the app’s end. The most critical actions would be removing the batteries and cleaning/relubricating the o-rings prior to reinstallation in the next season.
Hope this helps,

Since GeoDrops Cloud keeps monitoring your device, you may receive notifications about the device being Offline.
You can either uninstall the App or remove the powered off devices from the App.
(Thinking more about this, maybe we should add a “Hybernate” feature in the App, so you can keep the App installed and not having to remove / re-add the device next year spring). We’ll consider this possible feature request. ![]()
+1 to the concept of “suspending’’ a device. Better user experience during re-installation and still can help save compute on the GeoDrops platform side.
Are there any users that have left their devices in all winter? I’m in the mid west region.
Yes, I left two devices in the ground all last winter – without any difficulty.
I am in east TN, zone 7 cold hardiness.
Hi @Corvettedoug ,
Just wanted to check if this is working out for you now before I close this thread.
Thanks,
