NEW APP UPDATE - Calibration

Hi…I just updated the app and it seems each one of my drops is now requesting calibration

When I choose to calibrate, it then gives me two options, Learn Soil Profile and Learn Max Moisture

I’m assuming I should choose Learn Max Moisture to calibrate each drop again, however it’s currently dryer here since the last time we had a good rainfall and when I set the max moisture so…should I get a good amount of water applied to both the lawn and flowers / shrubs before I choose the calibration process ?

You can choose to click “Learn Max Moisture” whenever you feel the need. Typically the best times are right after a rainfall or sprinkler event. To answer your question, yes as indicated by the instructions.

I’m curious, how is the 78% number calculated on the main screen once I enter one of my drops (see image)

In the detail page it’s showing other percentages for soil moisture (see image)

Here is the explanation from @homedigy-lawrence in another post.

We also added a new “Dominant Real Moisture” value. It is a very easy to use, single soil moisture that is representative of your entire soil depth. So, if your plant root is evenly distributed across most of the sensor probe’s depth (which true for most mature plants, including lawn), then we highly recommend using that value.

  • Please note that “Dominant Real Moisture” is NOT just “Average of all three Real Moisture depths”.

  • Its calculation includes an additional level of loose-sensor-contact noise-rejection, as well as proper physics simulation of how, if there’s water at deeper soil depth and very little at shallow soil depth, your plant root knows to absorb most of its water from the deeper soil depth, and so the “dominant real moisture” is closer to how wet your deeper soil depth is at, instead of just the average of all the soil depths.

As for the other percentages shown in the chart, because the app remembers your previous chart preferences, you will need to select the new “Main Moisture” chart to see it.

To update your selection:

  1. Tap the Chart icon in the bottom right corner to open the available charts menu.

  2. Tap Main moisture to select it.

  3. Deselect any options you no longer want to view.

* We will also be adding moisture descriptions to the chart so it is more useful to reference and when selecting your moisture target.
