Wifi signal area

One of my devices 34:85:18:49:4F:A8
Is stating weak Wi-Fi, but over the last year? It hasn’t had a problem. And it hasn’t moved positions.
Is this something else that needs to be looked at? Or should I move it to try to get a better wi fi signal

Hi Alan,

Can you share the serial number of that said device? I would like to take a look.

Serial number 33443A

Thanks Alan. We are investigating what happened. This is what we’re seeing over the past 6 months or so.

Just to you know the unit that sends the wifi signal outside to the front yard had not been moved

Hi Alan,

Apologies for the late response. Is this still an issue that you’re experiencing despite not having relocated your sensor? I will escalate this to engineering, specifically to @homedigy-alpha to investigate this further.

Yes, it is. I have not relocated It
It still getting a low WIFi signal as well as the battery, has drained extremely fast. So I will be replacing that in the next day or so.

Hi Alan,

Sorry for the belated response. I have reviewed your device. Our notifcation might have given you the impression that the poor wifi is causing the battery drain and that is a reasonable assumption. But in your case the poor wifi did not cause more frequent connections and retries. So to answer your questions

Since you last changed your battery in around February, the wifi seems to have gotten a bit weaker on average but not enough to be causing the battery drain. In short, you do not need to relocate the device. One thing you can try to improve the wifi signal is to point the wider part of the device, where the wifi antenna is located, toward the wifi AP. This might have been the reason your wifi reception was on average a bit better before you changed the battery.

It still getting a low WIFi signal as well as the battery, has drained extremely fast. So I will be replacing that in the next day or so.

We have been tweaking the notification a lot so the experience might not have been the best. You battery should still be able to last for almost another month. The “Low battery” message you received was not a “Critical” Low battery warning, but a reminder that your device has around 3 weeks worth of battery left. The message might have been sent a bit too early as well. Since you have already changed your battery I don’t think you need any further action other than maybe pointing the wider part of the device toward the wifi AP.

We are still improving the battery life and notification experience as we move into production launch so hopefully your experience will improve over time.

Thank you for your patience.

PS. FYI, this is the battery behaviour for the past year

The low wifi signal is no longer showing on the device and I have replaced the battery.

Good to hear Alan,

Can we read this situation to have resolved? Just want to double check before closing the ticket.

Thanks,

Hi Alan,

Since we haven’t heard back, I’ll assume things are working out, hence closing this thread. Feel free to reopen this if the problem reoccurs.
