Watering detection is inaccurate

Device 3353U9

We got 1.85 inches of rain on Aug 21-22, and 0.08 inch on Aug 26. The readings on this device went to 100% on Aug 21 which is what I would have expected due to the rain. However the readings from Aug 25-29 seem inaccurate, and the watering detected indications are not accurate. Is there something I should do with this device? Recalibrate?

Also, it seems like every time a watering event is detected, even if inaccurate, the next reading is delayed 8-10 hours.

Hi @kramekooc

Please help us train with the data by flagging the watering event with a thumbs down. We will investigate this

Just thumbs downed the inaccurate watering events. Thanks!

Hi @kramekooc ,

This device showed a large spike in moisture reading around 9:00 AM on 8-30, followed by a large drop later that afternoon. This is similar to three of my other devices (337CYU, 336B7Q, 334K6P) that was the subject of a separate post. There was no rain event or irrigation that occurred during this time. Can actual soil moisture content change that quickly? Does this device look like it is reading accurately on your end?

I monitor the moisture readings daily or sometimes 2-3 times per day, and as they change I decide when to turn the irrigation system on. When I see a big drop in the moisture reading I plan to run my irrigation system the next day, only to see the moisture reading spike higher a few hours later, leaving me to wonder whether I should irrigate or not. Then I think about integrating a smart irrigation controller and wonder how it would respond to these large swings in moisture readings.

I suspect that any time there is a large spike in moisture reading the device/software is going to flag it as “watering detected” even if there was not a rain or irrigation event. I will continue to thumbs-down these as appropriate, but the real question in my mind is the device returning accurate readings, or are these large swings with no rain or irrigation an anomaly, or do I have a bad install, or perhaps some other reason.

Hi @kramekooc

We have reviewed all your devices and have come to the conclusion that a number of them are not installed as well as it should. This has always been one of our top concerns for new users that the sensor is a little tricky to install properly to ensure good readings. It took sometime for our Beta user to master it but once they have learned it is something they can do consistently.

Out of all your installed devices, the only one that is installed well is “337CYU” for “Front Flower Bed”. Perhaps that is the one with the easiest soil to work with.

We would like to ask if you would want to do a live session with one of our team to help understand your soil properties and your installation procedure. This would help us greatly on improving our installation instructions and general user experience.

Is this something that you would like the help us with? Please let us know of a time that is convenient for you if this is something you would like to do.

Thank you for your patience and your active feedback

Yes, that would be awesome! Here are some times that are good for me:

9-5-25 anytime after 10 AM Central Time

9-8-25 anytime after 9 AM Central Time

9-9-25 anytime after 1 PM Central Time

9-10-25 anytime after 9 AM Central Time

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi @kramekooc and @homedigy-alpha - I’d suggest coordinating a time and video meeting via Private IM (or exchange emails via Private IMs).

Alternatively, @kramekooc - Please feel free to send us an email at: tech-support@homedigy.com and we’ll coordinate a live video session time there).

Thanks everyone!

Hi @kramekooc

Just to be sure you could see the invite. I have PM’d the Google meet details and also sent an invitation through your email.

Thank you

Al

Hi @kramekooc ,

I know you had talked to the engineering team. Just circling back to see if you need additional help before I go ahead and close this thread.

Thanks,

Hi Stanley,

I think we have resolved the issue, so this thread can be closed. If something else should arise, I’ll start a new one. Thanks for checking!
